Emily Ward, AVC 2025, travelled to Nain and Postville as one of the student participants on the Chinook Project. As part of the experience, the students craft various pieces of writing.
I created this video as a way of remembering our amazing trip and to give others an inside look into what the Chinook Project is. This video offers a small snapshot of all the things we accomplished in a couple short weeks.
Compiling these clips into a video and looking back on this trip highlights a few things for me personally. First, the majority of our days as students were spent performing surgery which is well reflected in this video. We all loved being in the surgeon role and the calm confidence we all had while performing surgery shines through in these clips. Despite the busy clinic days that felt quite hectic at the time as we adjusted to the new environments, it is cool to look back at these videos and see how well controlled and organized it looks from the outside. Also, the video shows how our supervising veterinarians worked more closely with us during the surgeries and treatments but as time went on, we all became more and more independent.
In addition, when putting together the video, I was surprised at how quiet the background noise was on each clip. It mostly consisted of the quiet beeps from our surgical monitoring equipment. Even though we had many dogs that didn’t know each other in a small unfamiliar space, the quiet videos show that we managed to keep them calm and happy.
Lastly, I love having the clips of the beautiful landscape that we got to experience in northern Labrador. The unique rocky terrain and incredible sunsets we experienced were such a highlight of this trip.
