Carolanne Martel, AVC 2025, travelled to Nain and Postville as one of the student participants on the Chinook Project. As part of the experience, the students craft various pieces of writing.
With only a few days to make a significant impact and accomplish our goals, the Chinook Project was all about making the most of our time. The environment was fast-paced and dynamic, but our team thrived on the challenge. We were constantly busy with surgeries and medical appointments, but our team embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and positivity.
Even though the work was intense, and the days were long, we made the most of every moment. Our team flourished in the dynamic atmosphere, finding joy in the process of helping animals and their owners. Each day was filled with laughter and camaraderie, turning what could have been an overwhelming experience into a memorable adventure.
Back at our accommodation each evening, we would gather to reflect on the day’s events. These moments of sharing stories and supporting each other were crucial. They allowed us to bond and strengthen our connections, making the overall experience even more enjoyable. Despite the high pressure and fast pace, we maintained a positive attitude and supported each other through it all.
This project was not only about improving our veterinary skills but also about building lasting relationships. I had the chance to work closely with a dedicated and spirited team, and the friendships and professional connections I made are invaluable. The experience highlighted the importance of working with a supportive and enthusiastic group, and I now have colleagues and friends I can rely on in my future career.
The Chinook Project was a remarkable blend of productive work, fun, and relationship-building. It demonstrated the power of teamwork and positivity in overcoming challenges and achieving our goals. The skills I gained as a future veterinarian and the lasting relationships I formed during this project will continue to inspire and support me as I move forward in my career.
