" A Land so Wide"

chinookproject

It's here! Launch Day for Chinook 2015! Today the team gathers from Halifax, Charlottetown, St. John's and North Carolina and makes their way to Labrador. Mary-Claire Sanderson, an AVC student on the team, shares her thoughts at the start of this journey.

"Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea; Tracing one warm line through a land so wide and savage And make a Northwest Passage to the sea."

Tomorrow I travel farther North than I have ever been before. Stan Rogers' haunting voice is echoing through my mind, conjuring images of a cold and barren land. While I imagine early European explorers as they braved the vast unknown landscape of Northern Canada, my focus shifts to the people I will encounter in the coming days. To the Labrador communities of Natuashish and Sheshatshiu - where we will provide veterinary care for the next two weeks - the North is home. I am eager to catch a glimpse our country through their eyes.

Good Luck Chinook Team!
